Teacup Persian Kittens – Facts VS. Fiction
What to know before you purchase one – The Truth About Teacup Cats
What is a teacup cat? Are they real? ~~ Facts vs. fantasy world on these fascinating felines.
You can read almost anything on the World Wide Web, heck I’m sure somewhere you can probably even buy a unicorn if you believe hard enough.
Living in a fantasy world can seem fun for a while, but personally, when it comes to matters of the heart, eventually, the truth is always the best.
With so many conflicting websites about Teacup Persian Kittens, we thought we would set the record straight about these charming works of furry purry art.
First and foremost, we have been breeding Persian and Himalayan Kittens for 32 years now, we have been on the Internet for 17 of those years and seen ton
s of here today gone tomorrow websites claiming to have “Ultra-Tiny Teacups, Mini Size, Micro Size”, all sorts of teeny tiny names to make their kittens sound extra small, any word they can think of as a marketing ploy to get you to believe in their fantasy world of ultra-tiny Teacup Persian Kittens.
Many cat breeders will take pictures of a three or four-month-old kitten then post it on their website and say it is an “Adult Teacup Cat.”
This is so very misleading. I mean, how are you, the general public supposed to know the true age of the kitty in the picture?
You want to believe what you see. You want to believe what you ar
e told but let’s face it, unicorns and mermaids are not real either, but we see them on the Internet.
The reality is, it just comes down to morals.
9 times out of 10 they also take part in photoshopping real cat pictures to create the illusion of super tiny teacup Persians.
Understanding the difference between a regular size Persian and a Teacup Persian. Silvers and Goldens are simply by nature smaller framed Persians. No one ever bred them down.
Like with humans, you have people who are just normally ‘big-boned” and people that are just naturally “petite.” They are not healthy or unhealthy; it’s just
their natural build. Their bone structures are vastly different.
The overall bone structure on a Teacup Persian kitty is naturally small and will be small their entire life. When bred responsibly by breeders with proper, caring, dedicated knowledge, they are some of the most amazing pets on this planet. If not, you could end up with someone just breeding two runt kittens together, calling them teacups or someone just breeding regular cats together and applying all kinds of ‘tiny” terminology in order to get you to step into their fantasy website world.
Here on our website, we do clarify which kitties classify as a Teacup size as well as give you an honest adult weight estimate. We provide this weight estimate with all our kittens for sale.
Breeding Teacup Persian
Kittens – A Matter of Morals
Selecting which Teacup Persians qualify as being part of a healthy breeding program comes down to ethics. It sets the good cat breeders away from the bad.
What becomes dangerous? What crosses the
line? As we said, Silver and Golden Persians are by nature, naturally, petite, very small-framed kitties, so selecting the proper ones for a breeding program is crucial. Occasionally other colors can be, but generally speaking, it pertains to the silver and golden color division.
Keep two things in mind when buying a Teacup Persian Kitten.
1.) Breeding ANY animal 3 pounds and under is EXTREMELY UNETHICAL!
2.) Purposely breeding to achieve animals UNDER 3 pounds is EXTREMELY UNETHICAL!
Why? Because of the serious health consequences related to not only the pregnancy of that three-pound cat but the delivery and aftermath. Nine times out of ten, that mama kitty will have to undergo a c-section in order to get the kittens out of her. Then the struggle of keeping kittens who only weigh a few ozs alive begins. Dealing with Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) & Hypothermia are issues that will plague these ultra-tiny kitties for nearly their first year of life (possibly longer) which can mean complete heartbreak, numerous vet bills, or both.
Tiny Teacup Persians bones are often much frailer and can easily be broken. They are not suitable for homes with young children or dogs and need to be handled with extreme care.
Extra tiny teacup kittens can easily suffer fatal consequences of something that would set a regular or toy Persian kitty back for only a short time. We would NEVER BREED ANY CAT UNDER THREE POUNDS, NOR STRIVE TO GET THEM!
I hope this page has helped to clarify misinformation regarding those teeny tiny Persian Kittens people think they want. While we do work with Teacup Persian kittens, we primarily focus on Toy size Persians, and the Teacup Persians we do work with are bred responsibly to be a part of your family for many years to come.
