Potential Puppy Buyer Murders Rat Terrier Breeder

The crime took place on December 16, 2004. According to CNN,

“Montgomery met Stinnett through an online chat room and — using a fictitious name — expressed interest in a rat-terrier dog, a type she bred and sold. Montgomery allegedly obtained directions to Stinnett’s home and visited her there Thursday. Hours later, officials have said, Stinnett’s mother found her body.

The baby, who has since been named Victoria Jo, was located in Montgomery’s custody the following day, police said.

She was taken to the Stormont-Vail Regional Health Care Center in Topeka, Kansas, and was released Monday night after being united with her father, Zeb Stinnett.”

On Wednesday, December 16, 2004, Lisa, posing as “Darlene Fisher,” contacted Bobbie Jo in an Internet chat room under the pretext of wanting to buy a rat terrier. Bobbie Jo gave her directions to her house, and they agreed to meet the next day.

As most of us have done in the past–or continue to do now–Stinnett didn’t check ‘Darlene Fisher’s’ credentials or other information before giving her directions to her home.

The next day, Stinnett’s mother discovered her daughter’s body dead in a pool of blood, with fistfuls of blond hair and the fetus removed from her body.

Our Story

One Sunday afternoon, while we were at home enjoying a backyard barbecue. We walked into our home to find two women walking around our house. When asked, “Who are you, and what are you doing inside of our home?”

One of them said… “You are a business, and we want to shop for a kitten.”

This was the final straw for us. We may be an in-home business, but that does not mean we allow strangers off the Internet to browse through the privacy of our home.

Much like you wouldn’t allow someone off of Craigslist, the same holds true for allowing someone into our home to look at the kittens.

We often hear how the Internet is used as a malicious path to carry out unthinkable crimes.

We hope you understand when we ask you to meet in a public location, fill out an online kitten application telling us about yourself, and set up an appointment prior to the meeting.

We fully understand some people are uncomfortable with purchasing a kitten on the internet without meeting him/her prior to paying.

WE are unwilling to place the safety of our children on the line for people “uncomfortable” with purchasing over the internet. Shopping online isn’t for everyone.
