Bringing Your New Kitten Home

New Kitten Homecoming: Step-by-Step Guide
Start Small
When your kitten arrives, begin with a quiet “home base” room (master bedroom or guest room is perfect). Too much freedom too fast can cause stress, anxiety, and even temporary litter box confusion.
-
No full-house access the first week
-
No dog introductions in the first week
Set Up Their Home Base
Include:
-
Litter pan in a quiet corner
-
Food and water dishes
-
Soft music/TV on low for comforting voices
-
Nursery blanket (familiar scent = instant comfort)
-
Catnip toys + cozy beds
Spend time in the room each day—sit, talk softly, let them come to you. Spend plenty of time playing with them.
Important rules:
-
Never chase your kitten
-
No loud grabbing, squealing, or running after them
-
Calm hands create fast trust
Week Two & Beyond
After one week, leave the door open and let them explore at their own pace. Some kittens arrive like tiny superheroes. Others are cautious observers. Both are normal.
The magic word is: TIME.
