Meet Furbert

Every litter seems to have that one kitten who looks after everyone else.

For us, that’s Furbert.

Somewhere along the way, this sweet little boy decided it was his job to make sure everyone in the nursery was okay. We certainly didn’t teach him to do it…he just started one day, and it’s become one of the things we love most about him.

More than once we’ve walked into the nursery to find Furbert sitting beside one of the younger kittens, carefully washing their tiny face as if he’s saying, “Don’t worry…I’ve got you.”

He’ll lick their ears, clean their whiskers, and fuss over them until he’s completely satisfied with his work. Then, with the confidence of someone who’s just accomplished something very important, he’ll quietly wander off to see if anyone else might need his help.

It’s one of those little moments that melts your heart every single time.

Now…

Before you start thinking Furbert is all business, you should know something else about him.

He’s also hilarious.

The funny thing is, he doesn’t even realize it.

One afternoon we watched him proudly carry a fuzzy toy all the way across the nursery. You could tell he felt pretty important.

Halfway there, he became completely distracted by his own fluffy tail.

Within seconds, he had dropped the toy, spun around three times trying to catch his tail, forgotten why he started spinning in the first place, and finally flopped onto his back looking perfectly content with the way things had turned out.

We laughed so hard.

Furbert just looked at us as if to say, “What?”

That’s life with him.

He has this wonderful way of making ordinary days feel a little happier.

As playful as he is, Furbert has one of the gentlest hearts we’ve ever seen. He loves being with people just as much as he loves being with the other kittens. If you’re sitting down, he’ll often come over to see if there’s room beside you. If you’re walking through the nursery, he’ll quietly tag along just to keep you company.

He doesn’t have to be the center of attention.

He’s simply happiest being close to the people he loves.

Of course, he’s absolutely beautiful too.

His luxurious shaded golden coat almost seems to glow, especially when the sunlight catches it. Combined with his sweet teddy bear face and kind expression, he’s the sort of kitten people remember long after they’ve met him.

When we think about Furbert leaving for his forever home, we don’t picture someone getting a beautiful Persian kitten.

We picture a family gaining a little companion who will quietly become part of their everyday life.

The one who follows you into the kitchen just to see what you’re making.

The one who curls up beside you after a long day.

The one who somehow knows when another pet—or another person—could use a little extra love.

That’s just who Furbert is.

He’s funny without trying.

Gentle without being timid.

Loving without being demanding.

And we have a feeling that somewhere out there is a family that’s going to wonder how they ever lived without him.
